Dion Yannatos

Dion Yannatos has shown nationally in New York, New England and on the west coast including shows at the Bellevue Art Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum, the Bellingham Museum of Art, and at the Boise State Visual Arts Center as well as many galleries and exhibition venues. He recently completed a commission for the Hudson Valley Seed Library. Look for the Skyscraper Sunflowers. Other commissions include works for the Selecto Corp. in Ardsley, NY, John Leese Realty and the Horton School Association in Portchester, NY, Sonary Publications in Cambridge, MA, The Harvard-Radcliffe Orchestra and BMK Associates in Wilmington, MA and the Salka family in Seattle, WA. Several of his paintings are in the collection of Dragon Search in Kingston, NY and his work in painting and drawing are in many private collections.

Dion Yannatos taught painting and drawing in various part time positions between 1993 and 1999at the University of Washington, the North Seattle Community College, Green River Community College and the Shoreline Community College.

Born in 1962 in Grinnell and spending his formative years in Cambridge, MA in a creative family active in music, dance and art, Dion Yannatos began his involvement in the visual arts at an early age. He completed his BFA in painting at the State University of NY at Purchase in 1985 and established a studio in Brooklyn, NY. After some initial success and recognition, his career was unfortunately interrupted by a fire that engulfed the building that housed his studio which led to a move to Seattle, WA to pursue an MFA in painting at the University of Washington in 1991. He was honored with the prestigious Jakob K. Javitts Fellowship as well as a W.W. Stout Fellowship and Gonzales Scholarship. He extended his graduate studies to include a year at the Ecole Marchutz in Aix-en-Provence in France and received his MFA in 1994. Dion Yannatos moved back east to West Hurley, NY in 2002 where he resides today.
